Why CET Japan: Virtual Intensive Language and Culture?
Make the most of a summer or January at home by studying Japanese with CET Japan’s proven curriculum. This is more than just online learning—study the language, explore Japanese culture, connect with college students and other locals in Osaka… then leave with significant language gains and the skill set for successful, continued Japanese studies.
You take one comprehensive Japanese language course for a total of 4 or 9 credits, depending on your selected term.
Intensive and Interactive
Get ready to make progress beyond what you thought possible from your own home. Your classes combine the best of live and asynchronous learning—grammar is introduced through pre-recorded modules and complemented by 2.5 hours of a live and interactive classroom setting with energetic teachers and motivated classmates. Not only will you have made great strides in your proficiency at the end of eight weeks, you’ll also know how to study Japanese—an essential skill for successful independent learning.
More than an Online Class
Class sizes are capped at four students to ensure plenty of individual attention while your intensive curriculum teaches you both Japanese language and culture. And on top of that, your classes invite locals from Osaka into the classroom—practice listening and chatting with a variety of different native speakers. Learn Osaka-ben (the local dialect) and use it in conversations with local senior citizens. You even go on virtual excursions into the city with students from Osaka Gakuin University (OGU).
Class in Session
Every day, your class combines a live classroom environment with asynchronous modules (pre-recorded videos) to make the most of online learning. And with 2.5 daily hours of interactive class, you get to ask and answer questions in real time, connect with Japanese students, and get instant feedback on your pronunciation and grammar usage from your teachers and classmates.
Take what you’ve learned in class and discuss it at regularly hosted online video chats meant for casual Japanese practice with CET peers and students from OGU. Then, keep the conversation going in your LINE group (Japan’s preferred messaging app) all summer. You might even participate in a video project that transcends borders. The state of the world might have you staying home for the greater good, but that doesn’t mean that you have to miss out on connecting with those abroad.
A Day in the Life
Live classes are scheduled for mornings in Japan, so you can expect to be in a live classroom environment in the late afternoons/evenings (Sunday to Thursday) depending on your time zone. Each day, you watch and learn with pre-recorded videos that explain grammar and other class content. You then have 2.5 hours of live classroom time that puts what you learned on your own into active practice. Live classroom sessions also include guest speakers and other opportunities to practice your Japanese with locals. As is standard for intensive language learning, you can expect between 3-4 hours of homework daily.
