How to Apply
To apply to a CET program, click the “Apply Now” button. You’ll then create a CET Compass account, select the program for which you wish to apply, and receive access to the application materials.
A typical CET application includes:
This is a brief form that asks for basic information and has a few short answer questions about why you want to study abroad.
Official transcripts may be scanned and uploaded, e-transcripts may be submitted, or hard copy official transcripts may be sent in a sealed, signed envelope. Your application in CET Compass has specific instructions for submitting an official transcript.
This is an online form that your study abroad office completes to let us know you meet the requirements to study abroad. To send the electronic form request, simply select your advisor’s name from the drop-down options provided.
Upload a scan of your passport to your online CET account. This should be a single scan that includes the signed signature page and the photo/personal details page. Don’t have a passport yet? Let us know and we can help advise you.
If your GPA falls below CET’s recommended 3.0, you’ll be asked to provide a recommendation from someone who has recently taught you in class. This helps CET in completing a holistic review of your candidacy for study abroad. If this applies to you, it will automatically appear as a requirement in your application in CET Compass.
You may be asked to provide a portfolio, a language writing sample or recommendation, information needed to apply for a visa, and/or other program-specific elements.
See the program page of the program you’ve selected for more details.
Eligibility for College Study Abroad Programs
CET believes in making study abroad accessible to all students. We recruit and actively support academically qualified students of all races, religions, origins, abilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations. CET college study abroad programs are open to students from any US college or university. Students from all majors and departments are welcome to apply.
Our study abroad programs are academically rigorous, so we recommend applicants to have an overall GPA of at least 3.0. However, we recognize that GPA is not a one-to-one indication of academic success! For students with a GPA lower than 3.0, we ask for a faculty recommendation to supplement your application. This helps us ensure that all admitted students are adequately equipped for a challenging term abroad.
Pre-requisites
Some programs have pre-requisites: for example, CET Harbin requires at least 4 semesters of college-level Chinese language completion before attendance. You may find any program-specific pre-requisites on each program’s web page.
Some courses taught on CET programs also have pre-requisites: for example, International Economics at CET Shanghai requires students to have completed an introductory micro or macro economics course before enrollment. Course pre-requisites will be listed in the Syllabus of Record for the course.
