Life during study abroad can get very busy, but there’s always time to cast your vote! CET is partnering with the Center for US Voters Abroad Turnout Project, a non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to helping US citizens living overseas cast their ballots. Below you’ll find a general overview of the absentee voting process to make sure you’re eligible to vote this coming November.
Register + request!
Step 1: Register to vote
Register at either your permanent home address or your university address. Use an online voter registration tool: We recommend voteamerica.com.
Step 2: Request an overseas ballot
Go to usvotersabroad.org to request an overseas absentee ballot.
- Foreign Address: Use your program’s CET Center address as your foreign address. You can find this address in your Pre-Departure Guide for Student Life (in your online CET account). If you aren’t sure how to fill out the address field, reach out! [email protected]
- We strongly recommend that you check the box to receive your absentee ballot electronically (by email) to ensure it’s delivered on time.
Step 3: Receive Your Ballot Online; Print It Out and Mail It Back
- 45 days before the November election, your local election official will start sending out ballots.
- Once you receive your emailed ballot, either fill it out and return it electronically if your state allows, or print and mail back a paper copy.
- Make sure you know what methods are permitted in your state. If you require assistance in submitting your ballot (e.g., contacting a courier or navigating the local mail service, etc.), on-site staff will gladly assist you to the best of their abilities.
If you have any questions about submitting your ballot, reach out! [email protected]
While you could register while abroad, it’s recommended that you fill this out as soon as possible. Tackling this task early allows ample time for your request to process, as well as the opportunity to easily work out any potential issues.
