As I sit down to write this final blog post, a mix of emotions rushes through me. It’s hard to believe that my study abroad journey has come to an end. The past three months have been an incredible whirlwind of experiences, learning, and personal growth. So I decided to write about the top four things I’m taking away from this experience.
(Left) One of the great friendships I was able to form with my classmate and (right) our roommate trip to 九分.
Embracing the Unknown:
From the moment I stepped off the plane in Taiwan, I knew I was embarking on a life-changing adventure. The initial culture shock and language barriers were daunting, but they pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to adapt and learn. It’s amazing how quickly I became accustomed to the rhythm of the city and its people. I found myself navigating bustling markets, ordering food in the local language, and even making friends with fellow students from around the world.
Academic Enrichment:
Studying abroad wasn’t just about exploring new places; it was also about expanding my intellectual horizons. The academic experience was nothing short of inspiring. Engaging in discussions with professors and students from diverse backgrounds opened my mind to fresh perspectives and deepened my understanding of global issues. I had the privilege of doing an internship and learned so much while also gaining insights from the cultural nuances that surrounded me.
Got to watch the Fubon Guardians (the pitcher of the team is an Aggie #gigem).
Cultural Immersion:
Immersing myself in the culture was an essential part of this journey. I relished the opportunity to visit different cities, sample authentic cuisine, and partake in so many things that were new to me. Living like a local allowed me to break down cultural barriers and form connections I know will last a lifetime. I’ve gained an appreciation for the beauty in diversity and the universality of human emotions.
Personal Growth:
While the stunning landscapes and incredible experiences were certainly unforgettable, it’s the personal growth that I value the most. Overcoming challenges, both big and small, taught me resilience and adaptability. Navigating through unfamiliar situations boosted my confidence and reminded me of my capability to thrive outside of my comfort zone. This journey has truly transformed me into a more open-minded, independent, and globally aware individual.

As I bid farewell to this incredible chapter of my life, I’m reminded of the bittersweet nature of goodbyes. The friendships I’ve forged and the memories I’ve created will remain close to my heart. Though I’m returning home, I know that a piece of my heart will forever remain in the places I’ve visited and the people I was able to meet.
