One of the greatest joys of studying abroad has been indulging in the authentic flavors of Taiwan. I’ve truly broken out of my shell when it comes to being a somewhat picky eater. From sampling traditional street food to savoring regional specialties, I recount the excitement of trying new ingredients, spices and experiencing how each dish tells a story about the local culture and traditions.

Food has this amazing ability to bring people together, regardless of language or background. I’ve had the pleasure of bonding with locals over shared meals, where laughter and stories were exchanged. These moments have created lasting memories and friendships, showing me that the universal language of food is all about love, connection, and a whole lot of flavor!
Beyond restaurants and cafes, local markets and food hubs offer a treasure trove of culinary delights. I’ve had numerous adventures through bustling markets, where vibrant stalls showcase an array of fresh produce, spices, and artisanal products. Navigating these vibrant spaces has allowed me to discover hidden gems and engage with local vendors, resulting in unforgettable food experiences.
I’ve also been able to branch out from the local delicacies near my apartment and explore new hidden gems along the way. There are so many places and different foods to try. Studying abroad isn’t just an academic adventure—it’s a culinary one too! Exploring the local cuisine opens doors to vibrant cultures, traditions, and incredible flavors that will leave you craving more.
