When news came to light that Univalle along with other public universities could not sustain themselves economically in the long term, students mobilized to secure the future of their education. Entrances to academic buildings were blocked after a university statement declared classes would resume the last week of January. After a long 3-month national strike, classes finally resumed at Univalle after the government agreed to comply with some of the demands students had been advocating for.

The Mio Cable, Cali’s metro cable public transit system, offers beautiful views of the western side of the city.
Taken near El Parque de los Gatos (The Park of the Cats), Cali has many beautiful works of art dispersed throughout the city.
Students visit el Mercado Alameda for some fresh fruits and veggies. One can find groceries, unique artisanal crafts, and bustling bartering all in this one marketplace.
One can typically find neat neighbors at Univalle just hanging around to remind you of the wondrous tropical nature of Cali.

Guachené is a town located in the Cauca department with a long and rich history. A nearly all Afro descendent town, Guachené celebrates its Christmas and New Year in February—a tradition that began 400 years ago when slaves weren’t allowed to celebrate the holidays due to forced labor. Their form of dance is very communal-centered and involves all age groups.
For this inaugural semester, CET students had the option to take classes at either Univalle and/or Javierana (pictured here). La Universidad de Javeriana is a private Jesuit university located in Cali.
Univalle has an abundance of breathtaking murals across campus. It makes it pretty difficult to complain about the commute to class every morning.
