Photos by Marie Alden (American University), Student Correspondent for CET Brazil, 2019-2020 Academic Year This is the CET office in São Paulo. We take Portuguese classes in this building along with our core course on Poverty and Inequality in Brazil. The space is open and bright with indoor and outdoor space to relax and study. This is the courtyard in PUC, the Brazilian university where we take classes in Portuguese and in English. This outdoor space is beautiful with tons of climbing vines and students studying or catching up with their friends. This is a view of São Paulo on a rainy day. Although all you can see for miles and miles is skyscrapers, this photo still does not capture the sheer magnitude of the city. A view of São Paulo on a sunny day. This photo was taken in a different location, but it captures more of the vastness of this city. The sunset can be seen sparingly in São Paulo. However, from this park “Pôr do Sol” (sunset park) the beautiful sunset can be seen on clear nights. This is “Balsa Bar” located in the Centro of São Paulo. Nightlife in this city is one of a kind and a great way to meet Brazilians and get to know the area more. This particular bar is on the rooftop of a building in the middle of the city. This is Parque Ibirapuera, the largest park in São Paulo. Many people come here to relax by the ponds and read a book, others use the space to run or ride bikes. The park also contains several museums. This photo was taken in the neighbourhood of Vila Madalena. This neighbourhood is artsy and has countless buildings covered in street art. My roommates and I took a day trip to a nearby beach in Guarúja. The day started out with beautiful sunny weather, but changed to rain and intense wind by the end! We still managed to catch some sun and eat an açaí before… This is a photo of me (left), Katie (middle), and Natalia (right), my Brazilian and American roommates who I already love dearly. I can’t wait to spend a year here with them!
