Onism is a noun from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows that has been lingering within my subconscious for years, but it wasn’t until after its recent discovery that I was able to come to Prague… and nothing has been the same since.
The definition goes as follows:
the frustration of being stuck in just one body, that inhabits only one place at a time, which is like standing in front of the departures screen at an airport, flickering over with strange place names like other people’s passwords, each representing one more thing you’ll never get to see before you die—and all because, as the arrow on the map helpfully points out, you are here.
These are some of the opening moments of my experience(s). I try to articulate imagery but different, that is only because I do in fact feel like I’m in some sort of midding Twilight Zone.
I’m changing… I can feel it.
