Transcripts for CET Programs
Within 8 to 10 weeks of the program end date, official academic documentation is sent to the student’s home institution via secure email or mail, provided the student’s account is paid in full. Students not affiliated with a US college/university receive their official academic documentation via secure email unless a hard copy of the documentation is requested. Final grades are posted to student accounts within that same time frame. For students receiving a transcript from CET’s School of Record, the University of Minnesota, the date of transcript delivery depends upon when the student orders the transcript. Additional transcripts may be requested for a fee.
For students enrolled in programs with a direct-enroll component at a local host institution, we do our best to adhere to the same timeline. On occasion, transcripts with direct-enroll courses may take longer due to differing processing deadlines at our host institutions abroad.
Types of Academic Documentation
The type of academic documentation a student receives varies by program and includes the following (in English):
- Titles of all courses taken
- Total number of course contact hours
- Grade earned
- Recommended credits per course
What academic documentation will you receive for your program?
For CET programs in Greater China, the Czech Republic, and Japan, the standard academic documentation provided is a CET jointly-issued transcript. CET jointly-issued transcripts contain the seal and signature of the partner host university, and the seal of CET Academic Programs. For US institutions that require additional documentation, students receive a School of Record transcript from the University of Minnesota.
For CET programs in Brazil, Colombia, Florence, Jordan, where jointly-issued transcripts are not available, the standard academic documentation provided by CET is a University of Minnesota School of Record transcript. Some CET partner institutions accept an official CET Grade Report in place of the UMN School of Record transcript.
For the CET Siena program, students receive an official transcript from the University of Virginia.
For the Middlebury in Beijing program, students receive an official transcript from Middlebury College.
For those taking Virtual Language Training without credit, a Certificate of Completion is issued upon completion of instruction, which lists the student’s name, program name, and contact hours completed.
For students taking for-credit Virtual Language Training, the standard academic documentation provided by CET is a University of Minnesota School of Record transcript.

Recommended Credits
Technically speaking, CET does not award credit. We recommend credits based on the number of course contact hours. Students’ home institutions award credit based on our recommendations and its own requirements. In line with how academic work is calculated at most US higher education institutions, we recommend one credit for each weekly contact hour, provided two hours of outside preparation is required for every hour spent in class or in course-related experiential learning. This system ensures academic rigor in all courses, and fair credit allocation across programs. We require each student to take a full course load on-site regardless of program or credit needs.
Grading Scales
All of our programs use a grading scale to assess student performance. For programs with direct-enroll courses, an additional grading scale may exist. View all of our grading scales.
Alumni Transcripts
If you are a CET alum needing official academic documentation for an employer, undergraduate, or graduate school application, the type of academic documentation that CET sends on your behalf varies by program and term abroad. Please note that transcripts for students who studied with CET prior to 1998 may not be available or may take longer to obtain.
Students who received a School of Record transcript from the University of Minnesota (UMN) will need to request an alumni transcript from UMN directly.
Students who attended the CET Siena program need to request an alumni transcript from the University of Virginia.
Receiving your transcript
Official CET documentation is sent securely via email or mailed in a sealed envelope to your destination of choice. Physical transcripts are considered official only if the sealed envelope remains unbroken. Official transcripts are released only for students whose accounts are paid in full.
There is a fee of $8.00 per official CET transcript requested. For expedited U.S. domestic mailing requests, an additional express mail charge of $30.00 applies. For international mailing requests, fees varies by destination. Requests are processed after payment is received.
Please allow five business days to process transcript requests. Requests made earlier in the week may result in faster processing.
Please submit a separate form for each transcript that you would like to request.
