One day, I said to my Czech roommate, David, jokingly but also with a determined intention, “David, why don’t you take me to some cool place?”
“I am hosting a Czech table next week,” David replied.
“Where? What?” I was excited because this was the first time I was going out with my roommate, David.
“Mexican street festival.”
David sent a group message on WhatsApp with a map and instructions to all FAMU students interested in the festival.
“América Street.”
I thought the festival was going to be in a large area, even though he had clearly mentioned a street. As we entered the street, I was shocked to see the crowd on the street. The entire street was a festival.
People were drinking, eating, dancing, and shopping. At the end of the street, there was a concert. I danced, whistled, and witnessed a Mexican lasso rope dance for the first time in my life.
Gracias, David!
