A Deportivo Cali futbol game I attended with some local residents of our apartment complex, featuring a 2-0 win for Cali! This stadium can hold almost 50,000 people and will be home to a contentious clasico game in a few weeks between Cali’s rival futbol clubs, Deportivo Cali and América de Cali.

One of the more cold-blooded students of Universidad de Valle, this Green Iguana is one of many that hangs out around Lago Central located in the middle of campus. Some of the iguanas are shy, however iguanas are known to chase after students and even whip them with their tails!
A look at Cali’s night lights from our apartment building. One of my favorite views thus far as you can clearly see how parts of Cali are built right into the mountains and how big the city really is.

In this photo three CET students (from left to right: Julia, Sydney, Arlett) speak on their lived experiences as black Americans to a room full of Universidad de Valle students and faculty. This conference was about the African diaspora in Latin America, racism in Colombia, resistance, and activism. We had not gone in expecting to speak; however, the students and the main speaker were very interested in what they had to say and even recorded much of the conversation. I will cover this experience more in one of my full text blog posts as this was an unforgettable event.
This long trail of ants stretched from one end of this church to the other, carrying bits of leaves and twigs all over the place. This church was on top of a hill in a park in Barrio San Antonio, where countless vendors, tourists, and locals watched the sun set over Cali’s beautiful horizon.
Cali has incredible art all over the city, especially in the San Antonio neighborhood. This wall says “Las Caleñas son como las flores” which means “women from Cali are like the flowers.” Some companies offer tours of some of the best sites of Cali art, which I am hoping to take part in at some point during my stay
This is a picture of Trumpet Jairo Varela with the Cali flag in the background. Each head of the trumpet plays a different part of the song “Cali Pachanguero.” One bell plays the rhythm, another the percussion, another the vocals. Finally, the last head plays it all together.
A beautiful view of Cali from the top of the Cristo Rey monument. In this photo you can see the downtown, as well as the northern and eastern neighborhoods. Cristo Rey is a monument similar to Cristo Redento in Rio, and should be one of your first stops in Cali as it really helped me to orient myself in the city by seeing it all at once.

CET Jordan: Academic Consultation Board

Over the years, we’ve built a strong network of locally-based faculty that we’re proud to call our peers. These faculty make up our Academic Consultation Board—a select group of local voices and thought leaders that help advise and shape components of the CET Jordan program. 

Board members support the program in many ways, including but not limited to:

  • Leveraging topical expertise to help develop courses, including field-based components.
  • Teaching courses or guest lectures for CET Jordan and custom programs
  • Recommending and providing academic resources for research
