Intensive and Interactive
Take your critical language skills beyond the app on your phone. Spend three hours a day studying Chinese language in a live, interactive classroom with like-minded peers and teachers invested in your personal progress. Your classes are rich with cultural content and help you build communication skills for functioning in everyday life in China. By the end of summer, you’ll have both language gains and a robust framework for successful independent Chinese learning in the future.
One-on-One Learning
Ask any of our alumni and they’ll tell you one-on-one classes are the best way to make progress towards your language goals. You and a language instructor meet one-on-one each day to put your Chinese to work—whether that’s practicing weaker areas, working on conversational fluidity, or simply engaging in further discussion about the day’s lesson.

Class
- Live classroom environment
- 2 hours of small group class/day
- 1 hour of one-on-one instruction with a language teacher/day
- Required: Computer, high-speed internet access, microphone, webcam, headphones
Your language classes are online and synchronous—meaning you’re interacting with your instructor and classmates live between China and the US. A live online classroom means you can get your questions answered on the spot, participate in in-class discussions, practice your skills with your language exchange partner, and get instant feedback from your teachers on important details like tones and pronunciation.

Intern Abroad, Virtually*
Complement a summer of intensive language learning by adding on a Global Virtual Internship in China. Connect with local professionals in Shanghai or Taipei as you can explore all types of industries—from fintech to journalism, or business consulting to music. It’ll be a busy summer, but you’ll leave with impressive gains in language and work experience.
*Internships only offered in summer terms
A Day in the Life
Each day starts with your group class for two class hours*. This section makes the bulk of your learning with the introduction of lesson content (grammar and vocabulary), drills, and discussions. Afterward, your one-on-one gives you the opportunity to put everything you’ve learned into practice. You spend one class hour with an instructor that facilitates the active application of the day’s lessons for maximum comprehension. And as is standard for intensive language learning, you can expect one hour of homework for each class hour.
*1 class hour is 45 minutes
Accessing Local Culture
Your classes include activities that help you connect with your host culture and engage with the locals from all over China. You might interview a native speaker on gender equality or tradition versus modernization, attend a lecture on the the Opening and Reform Policy by someone who’s lived through it, or debate current issues with students from Capital Normal University. You might be staying stateside for the greater good, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on cultural learning.
