Attention from Staff

In this small program, there’s plenty of room for individual student attention. Staff go the extra mile, doing everything they can to get you integrated into local life. Want advice for things to do with a new Italian friend? Want to learn how to cook? Want to get a group together for a museum crawl? Program staff love Italy, they love Siena, and they want nothing more than for you to love it, too.

Travel + Learn + Immerse

Practice with an Italian language partner. Stay with an Italian family in a homestay. Volunteer at a local non-profit. Journey to Sicily for your Traveling Seminar. Strike up a conversation with a shop owner (the locals love it when you use your Italian). Live with an Italian roommate. Linger after class to chat with your Italian instructor. This program gives you countless ways to get to know Italy and live an Italian life.

Off the Beaten Path

We won’t tell you that Siena is in a remote corner of the globe with no access to the modern world. But we will tell you that unlike larger cites in Italy, Siena is a few steps off the foreign tourist highway. It is beautiful, historic, and accessible (hop the train to Florence!) But because travelers leave the city at night, Siena also feels pure. Authentic. Like a small town. And that’s what makes it perfect for study abroad.

University of Virginia and CET

CET partners with the University of Virginia to operate this program. You get the best of both worlds—UVa’s outstanding academics + CET’s three decades of experience in study abroad. The best part: you don’t have to be a UVa student to attend. Student from all schools are welcome to apply.
