Program-Specific Information
Increased Flexibility for Summer
We look forward to welcoming students abroad in just a few months for the spring term. At the same time, we recognize the uncertainty created by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak around the world and are offering flexibility for program commitment, deposits, and fee payments. We have modified our Conditions and Terms for Summer 2022 to allow college and gap students to withdraw from their programs for any reason until 31 days before the arrival date with a full refund.
This page will continue to house up-to-date information on program changes and modifications for the summer term should they be needed. CET has every hope to operate all summer programs abroad, and we are using every source of information at our fingertips—including reports from staff on site, commissioned reports, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and U.S. Department of State—to carefully watch the situation in every single one of our program locations.
The safety of our students is our top priority, and we are committed to making decisions carefully on a program-by-program basis. Learn more about how CET is adapting programs in response to COVID.
Your Summer Questions Answered
Applications for summer programs are either February 1 (Japan and Taiwan) or March 1 (Mainland China, Czech Republic, Italy, Jordan). See each program’s web page to confirm.
Yes. Students will be asked to commit to their program with a refundable deposit within two weeks of their acceptance to a CET programs. This deposit is fully refundable through 31 days before the program start date.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Summer 2022 for college and gap programs.
All final program fee balances are due on April 15. Like the program deposit, CET will refund full program fees if you withdraw at least 31 days prior to the program start date. See our Financial Services page for more information on billing.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Summer 2022 for college and gap programs for more information.
As long as you withdraw from a college or gap program at least 31 days before the program start date, you will receive a full refund. We know this is an uncertain time, and CET wants to offer you flexibility to make the decision that is right for you and your personal circumstances. If you withdraw within 30 days of the program start date, you will receive a 50% refund.
If CET cancels your program before it begins, you will receive a full refund and be given the option to enroll in any of our other virtual or in-person programs that still has availability.
Please be sure to follow the recommendation of your Student Services Coordinator. They will confirm final program dates and let you know when it is wise to book your flight. When you book a flight, be sure to speak with your airline carrier about change fees and refund policies. We recommend booking a refundable or flexible ticket option. Please do not purchase airfare until you have confirmation from your Student Services Coordinator.
CET will continue to deliver the academic content of your program online. If you participate in a program with direct-enroll classes, we will do our best to work with the local partner to make these courses available online too, but we cannot guarantee that all direct-enroll courses will be able to transition to remote instruction.
CET program fees are broken down into two categories: tuition and fees and housing and student life fees. Should CET need to cancel a program once the program has started, Tuition and Fees will not be refunded as CET will continue to offer remote instruction and credit for the summer term.
CET will make every effort to recover costs in the Housing and Student Life fees category already paid to vendors and return these to students. CET will refund students any recoverable costs at the time of cancellation for non-academic program components. This will take time, not all related program costs will be recoverable, and amounts will depend on our partners’ and vendors’ ability to refund unused services.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Summer 2022 for details.
CET is not currently hosting local roommates. On-site staff will arrange other appropriate ways to connect with local students in compliance with COVID standards and precautions.
CET has developed a COVID-19 Playbook that is guiding our preparations and strategy for operating in-person programs abroad again. Learn more about the COVID Playbook and how our sites are adapting.
CET requires* all students for in-person standard programs (college, gap, and high school) to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including all CDC-recommended boosters.
Many countries have entry requirements that include a full course of WHO-approved vaccine for all non-citizens. Having all program participants (students, faculty, and staff) fully vaccinated allows CET to deliver the most academically and experientially robust versions of our programs while the virus continues to circulate.
All students will be required to upload a digital copy of their vaccine certification (i.e., CDC vaccination card) into their CET online account by prior to arrival per the deadline listed.
*CET recognizes that some students may not be able to be vaccinated due to a sincerely held religious belief, a medical condition, or due to vaccine availability. We will consider exemptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis. Students should contact CET’s Director for Health & Safety, Vanessa Sterling ([email protected]) as soon as possible if they wish to request an exemption. Please note: Many locations do not allow exemptions due to host country or host institution regulations.

CET Taiwan
CET is excited to announce that we are able to resume program operation in Taipei, in partnership with National Taiwan University’s Chinese Language Division! The CET Taiwan program offers intensive language study, coursework on cross-strait relations and Taiwanese history, and custom internship opportunities.
What this means for CET Taiwan applicants:
- Accepted students will receive instructions on visa applications from CET so that they may apply for their visas independently to the relevant TECRO location. CET is hosting advising workshops on the visa process to help students prepare.
- Under current regulations, all students will need to undergo a hotel quarantine for 10 days upon arrival in May. A quarantine housing and COVD-related fee of $630 has been added to students’ summer invoices. CET will cover quarantine housing costs in excess of $630, if applicable. See a full breakdown of program fees.
