Program-Specific Information
Increased Flexibility for Spring
We look forward to welcoming students abroad in just a few months for the spring term. At the same time, we recognize the uncertainty created by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak around the world and are offering flexibility for program commitment, deposits, and fee payments. We have modified our Conditions and Terms for Spring 2022 to allow students to withdraw from their programs for any reason until 31 days before the arrival date with a full refund.
This page will continue to house up-to-date information on program changes and modifications for the spring semester should they be needed. CET has every hope to operate spring programs abroad, and we are using every source of information at our fingertips—including reports from staff on site, commissioned reports, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and U.S. Department of State—to carefully watch the situation in every single one of our program locations.
The safety of our students is our top priority, and we are committed to making decisions carefully on a program-by-program basis. Learn more about how CET is adapting programs in response to COVID.
Your Spring Questions Answered
Applications for spring programs are either October 1 or November 1. See each program’s web page to confirm.
Yes. Students will be asked to commit to their program with a refundable deposit within two weeks of their acceptance to a CET programs. This deposit is fully refundable through 31 days before the program start date.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Spring 2022 for details.
All final program fee balances are due on November 15 (for programs with a October 1 application deadline) or December 15 (for programs with a November 1 application deadline). Like the program deposit, CET will refund full program fees if you withdraw at least 31 days prior to the program start date. See our Financial Services page for more information on billing.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Spring 2022 for details.
As long as you withdraw from the program at least 31 days before the program start date, you will receive a full refund. We know this is an uncertain time, and CET wants to offer you flexibility to make the decision that is right for you and your personal circumstances. If you withdraw within 30 days of the program start date, you will receive a 50% refund.
If CET cancels your program before it begins, you will receive a full refund. You will then need to work with your home institution to discuss alternative options for the spring term – including enrolling on your home campus.
Please be sure to follow the recommendation of your Student Services Coordinator. They will confirm final program dates and let you know when it is wise to book your flight. When you book a flight, be sure to speak with your airline carrier about change fees and refund policies. We recommend booking a refundable or flexible ticket option. Please do not purchase airfare until you have confirmation from your Student Services Coordinator.
CET will continue to deliver the academic content of your program online. If you participate in a program with direct-enroll classes, we will do our best to work with the local partner to make these courses available online too, but we cannot guarantee that all direct-enroll courses will be able to transition to remote instruction.
CET program fees are broken down into two categories: tuition and fees and housing and student life fees. Should CET need to cancel a program once the program has started, Tuition and Fees will not be refunded as CET will continue to offer remote instruction and credit for the spring term.
CET will make every effort to recover costs in the Housing and Student Life fees category already paid to vendors and return these to students. CET will refund students any recoverable costs at the time of cancellation for non-academic program components. This will take time, not all related program costs will be recoverable, and amounts will depend on our partners’ and vendors’ ability to refund unused services.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Spring 2022 for details.
CET will not host local roommates in Fall 2021. Students on all programs will live with other CET program participants only. CET will re-evaluate hosting roommates for Spring 2022 in late fall.
On-site staff will arrange other appropriate ways to connect with local students in compliance with COVID standards and precautions.
CET has developed a COVID-19 Playbook that is guiding our preparations and strategy for operating in-person programs abroad again. Learn more about the COVID Playbook and how our sites are adapting.
CET will require* all students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for in-person standard programs taking place in the 2021-22 academic year.
Several factors have informed this decision. Recently many countries have updated their entry requirements to include a WHO-approved vaccine for all non-citizens and we expect this to continue, meaning that travel to and within a region will be much easier for vaccinated people. We also agree with the WHO and US CDC that vaccines are the best method to contain further spread of COVID-19 within vulnerable populations around the world. Finally, having all students fully vaccinated allows us to deliver the most academically and experientially robust versions of our programs while the virus continues to circulate.
Janterm 2022 and Spring 2022 students should submit this as part of their application materials, but no later than 45 days prior to the start of their program.
As vaccine boosters become more widely available and some program host countries are considering requiring a booster after varying lengths of time, CET recommends (but does not require) that students consider getting a booster where it is allowed by state regulations. CET will contact any applicant if a particular host country alters their regulations to require a booster.
*CET recognizes that some students may not be able to be vaccinated due to a sincerely held religious belief, a medical condition, or due to vaccine availability. We will consider exemptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis. Students should contact CET’s Senior Manager for Health & Safety, Vanessa Sterling, as soon as possible if they wish to request an exemption. Once abroad, CET on-site staff will determine whether non-vaccinated students can fully and practically participate in program activities, given host institution mandates, local government restrictions, and testing availability.

JORDAN
PROGRAMMATIC CHANGES:
To minimize transmission risks associated with COVID-19 and the Delta/Omicron variants, the roommate program will remain suspended for the spring 2022 term. CET Jordan will offer students other avenues for connecting with local peers. Some examples could include: language partners, activities with locals, and a “neighbor” program with local peers living next door to students and engaging in cultural activities together.
CET has been monitoring the situation at the University of Jordan with regards to COVID-19 safety and has determined it is not feasible to return to campus for the spring 2022 term. Instead, the program will run in CET’s off-campus center. Student housing is walking distance from the CET Center, where students take classes and access staff offices. Students have access to amenities like grocery stores, pharmacies, and restaurants in their neighborhood.
Program academics are unchanged and there are no anticipated changes to program activities and field-based components.
