CET Vietnam: Development Studies

Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam

Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) is a fast-paced and unpretentious city. While exploring the city’s 24 districts, you’re as likely to stumble across a modern art space as you are a Buddhist temple. On any given night, you can go shopping in one of the city’s outdoor markets, strike up a conversation with a street vendor selling bun cha (grilled meat on vermicelli loaded with spices and fresh herbs), or you might end up at a water puppet theater performance with your roommate. And when the weekend comes, head out to the plentiful mountains, highlands, deltas, and coastlines surrounding your urban “home away from home.”

Local Roommates

Want to learn which neighborhood hangout has the best Vietnamese coffee? Whether to take a bus or flight for your weekend trip? Need to know which apps to download to navigate the city efficiently? Sharing a room with a local roommate gives you instant insider’s access to the city, as well as someone who can provide perspective on modern Vietnamese culture.

Downtown CET Center

The CET Center is located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City: the famous District 1. District 1 is bustling with markets, eateries, museums, historic sites, and a dizzying mix of traditional, colonial, and modern architecture. It is a visible demonstration of Vietnam’s transformative development.

The Center serves as the program hub. This is where you’ll attend classes, meet with staff and faculty, and borrow books from the program library. The compound houses several small coffee shops and canteens, and there’s plenty of common space to hang out with CET peers and roommates.

Housing & Meals

You’ll share a room with a local roommate at a guesthouse in the center of the city, a stone’s throw from the CET Center. Guesthouse rooms are simple but comfortable, with basic furnishings and attached bathrooms.

For meals, choose from hundreds of nearby restaurants, cafés, and street vendors. Local dining options range from simple to fancy, and include Vietnamese, American, and other international cuisine. Don’t forget to check out the che (sweet soybean desserts) or a fresh smoothie on your way home!
