Program Updates for Colombia, Prague, Taiwan, and Florence

No Language Prerequisite for Colombia

CET Colombia no longer has a Spanish language prerequisite. Once on site, beginning and intermediate Spanish level students will participate in an intensive language pre-semester course to help with their adjustment to a new country and language. Additionally, students with higher level Spanish language abilities benefit from more curricular flexibility and an option to direct enroll in an elective at Universidad del Valle, alongside Colombian undergraduates.

We’ve also added two new elective courses taught in English to the curriculum: Crime & Justice in Colombia and Environmental Conflicts and Ethnic Territories in Colombia.

This program will begin running in Spring 2019. Though CET Colombia was developed in collaboration with Howard University, all US college students are welcome to apply. The application deadline is November 1.

CET Prague: A New Summer Program and a New Home

We’re thrilled to announce the latest addition to our study abroad portfolio: CET Prague, Summer Internship. This program provides students with a productive summer of professional immersion, meaningful work experience for their résumé, and the skillset to take ownership of any opportunity. The summer curriculum will offer 6 credits and comprise of an internship, its accompanying course, and one area studies elective.

It’s not just a new program in Prague…we have a new center, too! We’ve moved to a bigger, light-filled building not too far from our previous location. CET students will still benefit from great access to public transportation and all the restaurants, cafés, and museums that downtown Prague has to offer.

CET Taiwan: New Housing and a Spring Curriculum Change

CET Taiwan now offers apartment living with local roommates handpicked and trained by our on-site Resident Director. The new CET apartments are conveniently located so students have easy access to their classes via public transportation or cycling.  Students will still enjoy the independence of apartment life, but now with the added value of roommates and their local expertise.

Additionally, the spring curriculum now begins with a front-loaded area studies course on cross-strait relations between Taiwan and Mainland China. This course is then followed by an internship and intensive Chinese language offerings at ICLP. This change is the result of an adjustment to make ICLP’s quarter system more semester-friendly for CET students.

New Acting Track in Florence

With the addition of an Acting for Film track, our partnership with New York Film Academy in Florence is now called CET Florence: Film Production & Acting.  This new track brings four new courses to our program and offers an option for students interested in what goes on in front of the camera. Classes include Technique & Scene Study (Plays), Acting for Film I, Voice & Movement, and Filmcraft. This program runs exclusively in fall semesters.

Programs Coming to an End

We are sadly saying goodbye to two programs this year, CET Beijing: Internship, and CET Vietnam: Community-Based Learning, due to low enrollment.  Students can still explore Beijing through our intensive language program, or pursue an internship at a Chinese company at CET Shanghai. Students interested in Vietnam can check out our development studies program in Ho Chi Minh City.
