Photos by Emily Nelson, (University of Minnesota – Twin Cities) Student Correspondent CET Vietnam Summer 2018 During the scavenger hunt on our second day, CET student Chloé and I met some Vietnamese students outside of the Saigon Central Post Office in District 1. My Vietnamese roommate then took this picture of Chloé and I outside of the Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City. It is located next to the central post office. This picture was taken outside the Bến Thành Market in district 1. Motorbikes are the main means of transportation in Vietnam and can be seen everywhere in Ho Chi Minh City. This dish is called bún thịt nướng and is a popular dish made with vermicelli noodles, pork, herbs, salad, and fish sauce. This was from a local restaurant down the street from the guest house we are staying in. Tiên and Jully outside of Highland Coffee which is a Vietnamese coffee chain. There are locations all over Ho Chi Minh City. One restaurant we went to is called Quan Nem where we ate a dish called Bún Chả Hà Nội which is a popular Northern Vietnamese dish. This is the Saigon Opera House where we went to a CET-sponsored event to see the show Teh Dar. Teh Dar was an acrobatic show about the tribal Vietnamese highlanders. This egg dish was ordered for us in a small café in district 1. No one in the café spoke English, so the waitress just picked something from the menu for us and it was delicious. It was similar to an omelet with green onion and pork. The CET students hanging out at a panoramic rooftop bar after finishing our first full week of classes and internships.
