Photos by Jiamin Li (Tufts University), Student Correspondent CET Jordan Intensive Language, Summer 2019 A music concert inside the Roman Theater. The American rapper Russ had a concert in Amman while we were here, and the experience was amazing. Be on the lookout for events like this while studying abroad. Live music at Mastro Bar and Restaurant in Jabal Weibdeh. There is live music here every Monday night starting at around 9:30 to 10:00 PM. Get here early to grab a table! A view of the Roman Theater from the café on top of Pasha Hotel. This café has great food and drinks plus a mini zoo (bunnies, hamsters, chickens, and birds). The story behind the owner of the hotel, Raymond, is incredible. Make sure to check it out when you are in Wasad Al-Balad. Flipping over the pot for Maqluba during a cooking class. Fun fact: the name of Maqluba literally means “upside down” in Arabic Maqluba out of the pot. Maqluba is a traditional Levantine dish consisting of chicken, fried vegetables, and rice. When we finished cooking Maqluba in the pot, we flipped over the pot (hence the name Maqluba) and served the food. It is definitely one of the tastiest dishes in Jordan. Mujaddara made in another cooking class. It is another traditional dish in the Levant and it consists of lentils, rice, and crispy onions. Falafel, hummus, bread, and vegetables at restaurant Abu Jabara. One of the must-try restaurants in Amman, Abu Jabara serves some of the greatest falafels and endless breads. A sculpture in the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. This contemporary gallery has a collection of artists all over the Middle East and the rest of the world. There is a great café and library on the top floor where you can study or catch a glimpse of the King Abdullah I Mosque View of the sunset near Books at Café in Rainbow Street. Books at Café is a popular spot and it serves up great food and drinks. They have 50% off for all students (except for Fridays), make sure to bring your University of Jordan IDs. Last night seeing the sunset in Amman with friends. This summer with CET has been so rewarding and I cannot recommend it enough for people who are ready for a challenge.
