Program-Specific Information
Increased Flexibility for Fall
We look forward to welcoming students abroad in just a few months for the fall term. At the same time, we recognize the uncertainty created by the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak around the world and are offering unprecedented flexibility for program commitment, deposits, and fee payments. We have modified our Conditions and Terms for Fall 2021 to allow students to withdraw from their programs for any reason until the day before the arrival date with a full refund.
This page will continue to house up-to-date information on program changes and modifications for the fall semester should they be needed. CET has every hope to operate fall programs abroad, and we are using every source of information at our fingertips—including reports from staff on site, commissioned reports, and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and U.S. Department of State—to carefully watch the situation in every single one of our program locations.
The safety of our students is our top priority, and we are committed to making decisions carefully on a program-by-program basis. Learn more about how CET is adapting programs in response to COVID.
Your Fall Questions Answered
Applications for all fall programs are due May 1.
Yes. Students will be asked to commit to their program with a refundable deposit within two weeks of their acceptance to a CET programs. This deposit is fully refundable through the day prior to program start dates.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Fall 2021 for details.
All final program fee balances are due June 15. Like the program deposit, CET will refund full program fees if you withdraw prior to the program start date. See our Financial Services page for more information on billing.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Fall 2021 for details.
No. We know this is an uncertain time, and CET wants to offer you flexibility to make the decision that is right for you and your personal circumstances. If you withdraw prior to the program start date (for any reason), you will receive a full refund.
If CET cancels your program before it begins, you will receive a full refund. You will then need to work with your home institution to discuss alternative options for the fall term – including enrolling on your home campus.
Please be sure to follow the recommendation of your Student Services Coordinator. They will confirm final program dates and let you know when it is wise to book your flight. When you book a flight, be sure to speak with your airline carrier about change fees and refund policies. We recommend booking a refundable or flexible ticket option. Please do not purchase airfare until you have confirmation from your Student Services Coordinator.
CET will continue to deliver the academic content of your program online. If you participate in a program with direct-enroll classes, we will do our best to work with the local partner to make these courses available online too, but we cannot guarantee that all direct-enroll courses will be able to transition to remote instruction.
CET program fees are broken down into two categories: tuition and fees and housing and student life fees. View your program fee breakdown. Should CET need to cancel a program once the program has started, Tuition and Fees will not be refunded as CET will continue to offer remote instruction and credit for the fall term.
CET will make every effort to recover costs in the Housing and Student Life fees category already paid to vendors and return these to students. CET will refund students any recoverable costs at the time of cancellation for non-academic program components. This will take time, not all related program costs will be recoverable, and amounts will depend on our partners’ and vendors’ ability to refund unused services.
Please see our revised Conditions and Terms for Fall 2021 for details.
Unfortunately, CET will not be able to host local roommates in Fall 2021 due to COVID precautions. CET staff will arrange opportunities for engaging with local students in other ways, taking into account COVID precautions. As soon as we are able, CET will host local roommates again on its programs.
CET has developed a COVID-19 Playbook that is guiding our preparations and strategy for operating in-person programs abroad again. Learn more about the COVID Playbook and how our sites are adapting.
CET will require* all students to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for in-person standard programs taking place in the 2021-22 academic year.
Several factors have informed this decision. Recently many countries have updated their entry requirements to include a WHO-approved vaccine for all non-citizens and we expect this to continue; meaning that travel to and within a region will be much easier for vaccinated people. We also agree with the WHO and US CDC that vaccines are the best method to contain further spread of COVID-19 within vulnerable populations around the world. Finally, having all students fully vaccinated allows us to deliver the most academically and experientially robust versions of our programs while the virus continues to circulate.
All fall-term students will be required to upload a digital copy of their vaccine certification (i.e., CDC vaccination card) into their CET online account by August 15, 2021. Janterm 2022 and Spring 2022 students should submit this as part of their application materials, but no later than 45 days prior to the start of their program.
*CET recognizes that some students may not be able to be vaccinated due to a sincerely held religious belief, a medical condition, or due to vaccine availability. We will consider exemptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis. Students should contact CET’s Senior Manager for Health & Safety, Vanessa Sterling, as soon as possible if they wish to request an exemption.
