Dickinson College President Margee M. Ensign announced the creation of the Dickinson-CET Global Leaders Scholarship, a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to be awarded annually to a college-bound student who shows interest in global issues and has participated in CET high school programs for which Dickinson grants course credit. The scholarship reflects Dickinson’s leadership in global education and internationalization and commitment to providing a distinctive brand of useful education that informs a life of civic engagement.
“An understanding of the wider world is absolutely critical for our future leaders,” said Ensign. “We are encouraging students who have studied abroad with CET to continue their global education at Dickinson, where international education is intentionally woven into the curriculum and campus life, both in Carlisle and in our dynamic programs around the world.”
Recently, Dickinson became the school of record and credit-granting institution for CET’s expanding high school and pre-college study abroad programs. In 2019, pre-college programs were held in Beijing, Florence, and Havana. In 2020, even more destinations will be added to our portfolio with programs in China, Cuba, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, and Spain.
Nominations for the Dickinson-CET Global Leaders Scholarship will be invited from CET staff, and candidates may also self-nominate. Information on how to apply for the scholarship may be found on the Dickinson website.
Dickinson has been a leader in global education and internationalization for decades. The college is the only institution to win the Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization two times, in 2019 and 2003. Nearly 60 percent of Dickinson students study abroad, while nationally, only about 10 percent of college graduates have done so. The college sends abroad high numbers of students who have traditionally been underrepresented in international study—55 percent of students of color and 47 percent of science majors have studied abroad in the past five years. CET is proud to have a globally-engaged partner in Dickinson. We are thrilled to have this scholarship further our students’ global ambitions long after they complete a CET pre-college program.
