CET’s innovative High School/Pre-College program in Beijing promises to be a defining experience in shaping this rising generation of up and coming young adults. Today’s students are becoming the “curious class,” acquiring 21st century border crossing competencies, to not only tackle the most stubborn problems of our times, but also to be effective and marketable in doing so. Global exposure through experiential learning and practical experiences early and often, fosters the value of international mobility and a deeper understanding of the global forces, diversity, and complexity that awaits the next wave of professionals.
Here in Beijing, our students are busy cultivating an international skill set already as high school students, setting them apart from their peers as they hone their Chinese language skills and develop their ability to be persistent and resilient, while also remaining inquisitive, facing each new challenge with increasing confidence. Employers today are seeking employees who can work in teams, remain flexible and adaptable, communicate effectively, work cross-culturally with sensitivity, and be genuinely inclusive of various viewpoints. All qualities a well-rounded study abroad program, grounded in intentional, curiosity-generating experiences about self and others, provides.
In our International Career Pathways class, students are defining their personal values, skills, and interests as they relate to their future career options, crafting resumes, considering internships, visioning their personal brands, conducting informational interviews with professionals in fields of interest, going on site visits to local businesses to hear the first-hand scoop on international careers, as well as reflecting on the advice of others who have established themselves abroad. Additionally, students are eagerly learning all the ways they will be able to translate their various experiences abroad into a language future employers will recognize and value.
International Career Pathways helps transform student’s perceptions of what is possible, developing a personalized career toolkit and leadership skills to guide future decisions that will position them well and responsibility for making the most of their college years leading to the dynamic, globally focused careers of the future!
