CET Vietnam: Development Studies

Ho Chi Minh City,Vietnam

If you want to understand Vietnam—a vibrant Asian nation riding the tide of development—you need to be in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) is a fast-paced city with laid back people. It’s easy to strike up a conversation with a street stand vendor when you order a bowl of bun cha (grilled meat on vermicelli loaded with spices and fresh herbs). Find a fashion boutique hidden in an old building. Explore a Buddhist temple. Stroll through an art space. Shop for lacquer tea sets at an outdoor market. Go to a water puppet theater performance with your roommate. Or plan an adventure: the mountains, highlands, deltas, and coastlines are calling.

This is the place to immerse yourself in Vietnam. This is the place to start exploring the developing world. This is the place to call home for a semester.

Local Roommates

Want to learn where to get real Vietnamese coffee? How to get tickets for a trip to the beach? Feel like planning an evening of bowling and karaoke-singing with friends? Sharing a room with a local roommate gives you instant insider’s access to the city. More importantly, it gives you someone to share the city with.

Downtown CET Center

The CET Center is located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City: famous District One. District One is bustling with markets, eateries, historic sites, and French era-designed buildings.

The Center serves as the program hub. This is where you’ll attend classes. After class, study in the small library. Chat with staff. Practice your Vietnamese with language teachers. Or just hang out with CET peers.

Housing & Meals

You’ll share a room with a local roommate at a guesthouse in the center of the city, a quick walk away from the CET Center. Guesthouse rooms are simple but comfortable, with basic furnishings and attached bathrooms.

For meals, take your pick of nearby restaurants, cafés, and street vendors. Don’t forget to check out the che (sweet soybean desserts) on your way home.
