I am a semi-reformed hippie child who has found an academic home at UW Madison. I am currently a senior majoring in History and working on a certificate in Eastern European Studies. I went to Prague for the Central European Studies program in the Spring of 2011 after falling head over heels for Czech literature the previous autumn. I think one of my favorite parts of being abroad was gaining a deeper understanding of the history and culture that shaped the books I enjoy so much. Some other highlights of the Prague experience included discovering the feeling of absolute freedom that comes from being able to take trams anywhere at any hour of the day or night, the readily available pastries, spending long afternoons in the Letna Beer Garden, and walking by the Vtlava under the moon.
