I’m a senior at Bowdoin College. I spent fall semester studying Chinese in Shanghai where I loved going to the World Expo, hiking at Yellow Mountain, and eating copious amounts of soup noodles.

My name is Corianne Holmes and I attend Wellesley College. I am majoring in French and East Asian Studies and studied abroad with CET twice; once in Beijing and once in Shanghai. My best memory from my summer in Beijing is sitting with a much-loved religion professor at a vegetarian Buddhist restaurant discussing the various nuances between ancient Chinese religions. And more recently in Shanghai, I most remember networking after hours, the entire city of Shanghai lit up in the background, on the rooftop of the Ritz Carlton for my internship.

I just returned from the CET Chinese Studies & Internship in Shanghai program and am entering my Sophomore year at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. In just two months as a part of this program I created memories that will last a lifetime, but more importantly friendships that will last a lifetime, all the while studying both Chinese, Chinese Economics and having an internship, all of which were extremely demanding. Our CET group weekend trip to 3 hidden gems of China, found and set up by our program director, Jeremy Friedlein, was by far the most memorable experience, whether it was bargaining over live fish with local restaurant owners at a small relatively unknown island, or watching the sun rise at a Daoist monastery at the highest peak in the area, or swimming under breathtaking waterfalls that made you question the reality of it all.

Hello! I’m currently a senior at Boston College and recently returned from the Chinese Studies & Internship in Shanghai this past summer. Climbing up 2000 mountain steps to a remote monastery, sampling the local cuisine with my Chinese roommate as a guide, and venturing out on my own as an intern in a vibrant new city are just a few examples of the incredible memories I was lucky enough to bring back with me. My time abroad will forever be a defining experience in my life and an opportunity I hope I can share with others.

Hello! I’m a third year student at Vanderbilt University and I studied in Shanghai during the fall ’10 semester of my sophomore year. While in Shanghai, I interned for a Chinese consulting firm and worked with two awesome ladies who, not only taught me all about doing business in China, but took me all around the city and taught me how to make dumplings! I loved my Chinese roommate and will never forget when she took me home for the weekend to meet her family, who welcomed me with open arms and cooked me a traditional Chinese feast.
