The New Media program is hosted by
FAMU's Center for Audio Visual Studies (CAS),
an art school within a film school. The
department focuses on production of
moving image works "beyond cinema"
including topics such as video installation
and interactive works, locative
and mobile media, code based projects,
conceptual artworks, multi-channel
and multi-threaded sound and image
practice, experimental documentary, and
expanded-to-database cinema.
CAS facilities include a black box theater with a 12 channel
sound system and the ability to project around the entire room, a
Virtual Reality CAVE environment, full sound and image editing suites,
computers, cameras,
projectors and equipment. The main campus is in the Lazansky Palace
across the street from the
National Theater in the heart of Prague.
CET students join the CAS department of 25-30 Czech students studying
for both
Undergraduate and Masters degrees. CET students select a CAS professor
who acts
as advisor/mentor for their project. Students are also paired with
fellow Czech
students who can proffer 'street level' advice on how they can best
participate
in the art & social activities taking place in the Czech Republic
during their stay.
