Two full-time and one part-time staff oversee the CET Sicily program. The Italy Programs Director, based in Florence, manages academics
and oversees faculty and staff. The Resident Director, based in Catania, oversees field trips, activities and housing and helps students adjust to life in Italy. The Program Assistant assists the Resident Director with all program logistics. Most faculty come from the University of Catania. Staff

Emiliana F. Caldarelli, Director
of Italy
Programs A native Italian, Emiliana earned a Laurea in Political Science from the University of Florence in 1996. In 1994, during her
graduate studies, she was awarded a scholarship from RutgersUniversity in New
Jersey where she conducted a research study about the financing of
political campaigns. After returning to Italy, her work has focused on educating American students in
Italy. She served as
coordinator for the Rutgers Study
Abroad Program in Florence, and from 1997 until 2002, she taught classes on Italian culture, politics
and history to American Universities Programs in Florence such
as Rutgers Junior Year in Florence, Richmond College, Portland
Community College,
and University of San Diego - Law School. Emiliana has been involved with CET's programs in Italy since their inception. She
began as CET's Siena Resident Director (2001-2003), continued as Florence
Resident Director (2003-2004), and has served as Italy Programs Director since 2004.
Alan Earhart,Catania Resident Director Alan has extensive experience working with US university students in Italy. During his undergraduate studies he served as Assistant Director at Harding University in Florence for two years, and during his graduate studies he served as Assistant Director at the University of Oregon summer study abroad program in Perugia. He earned a Masters degree in Italian Language and Literature at the University of Oregon. Alan strongly believes in the benefits of studying abroad and is looking forward to sharing his extensive experience in Italy with future students.
Giuseppe Boscarello Giuseppe Boscarello graduated from the University of Catania with degrees in Political Science and Contemporary History (PhD). For his studies, he has lived and worked in different European countries (Finland, England, Ireland, Cyprus), researching different academic and teaching systems. Currently, Giuseppe is a researcher at the University of Catania.
Daniele Iozzia Dr. Iozzia received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Catania in 2003. He currently teaches "History of Philosophy" at the University of Catania. Prior to his tenure at the Unviersity of Catania in 2004, Dr. Iozzia was an art history teacher at the Accademia di Belle Arti "Mediterranea" - Ragusta. He is also an accomplished author with publications such as "Responsio to quaestio disputata " Is Christian Neoplatonism the true heir of the Ancient Philosophical Tradition?", in Neoplatonismo pagano vs. Neoplatonismo cristiano. Identità e intersezioni and Il paradosso della bellezza divina. Gregorio di Nissa, In Cant. VI, p. 191, 7-9 ed. Langerbeck.
Giuseppe Palazzolo Dr. Palazzolo received his PhD from the University of Catania in 2007. His thesis focuses on Luigi Pirandello. He currently serves as a junior research
fellow in Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at the same university. His research interests
include Pirandello, Alessandro Manzoni, Umberto Eco and postmodern
literature. He is member of MOD (Italian Society for the study of literary
Modernism). Since 2002, he has acted as editor for Atlas publishing house in Bergamo, Italy.
Rocco Rossitto Rocco
Rossitto obtained a laurea in Modern Literature from the University of
Catania where he graduated cum laude. He has a certificate for teaching
Italian as a second language (DITALS) from the Universita per stranieri
di Siena. He has taught Italian in Italy and abroad at both
universities and private schools. In addition to teaching, he is a
freelance journalist and works on web communication.
Patrizia Tropea Patrizia graduated with a laurea in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Catania in 2002. Afterwards, she received her certification to teach English to middle and high school students from the University of Messina. She then extended her qualifications obtaining a certification to teach English to disabled students. Most recently she has continued to refine her passion for language teaching by obtaining a further certification to teach Italian as a second language (CEDILS) issued by the University of Venice. When not teaching Italian with CET in Sicily, she teaches English at public and private high schools.
Ivana Santonocito
Ivana M.L.
Santonocito graduated with a degree in
Political Science from the University of Catania in 2007. Her thesis was entitled Government and Democracy in the U.S. Federal
System. After an internship at the Italian Ministery of
Foreign Affairs in Rome, she commenced work on a PhD dissertation entitled Political Thought
and Institutions of Mediterranean Societies. Her research deals with the US federal system and the history of Sicily, especially during the Italian
Risorgimento. She is also a member of the
Institute for the History of the Italian Risorgimento and collaborates with the
Chair of History of Political Thought at the
Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Catania.
