Perspectives on Study Abroad and Reverse Culture Shock

An Important Reminder
In 2003, CET Academic Programs and Cultural Animal Productions released Journeying Home, a 30-minute film that describes students’ experiences with culture and reentry shock.
We developed this film to help our overseas resident directors prepare study abroad students for the process of coming home. We’re happy to make the film available to parents, alumni and the larger study abroad community. It features a series of interviews with students and young professionals who recently participated in programs in Asia, Africa and Europe. Filmmakers Chris Arnold and Augusta Palmer of Cultural Animal Productions interviewed students and experts, including Nan Sussman & Craig Storti, who provided tips for reducing the problems associated with coming home. For study abroad administrators and resident directors, the film offers a vehicle that can launch useful student discussion about culture/reentry shock issues either before students travel overseas or before they begin their trips home. For parents and alumni, the film offers insight into what can be a challenging homecoming. You also might be interested in the series of discussion questions we developed to accompany the film.
The film is available in DVD or VHS format for $60.00 per video plus shipping and handling. To purchase a copy, please contact CET.
