It’s a little rough being abroad during the holiday season and thinking of the big family dinners happening back home. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday so I was especially bummed during Thanksgiving. I’m not the only one who felt that way and so there were a couple of Thanksgiving dinners planned! This was especially fun because we got to share the tradition with our Czech buddies who were very enthusiastic. We did a potluck style dinner with about 12 people on the program. Roasting a whole turkey isn’t very common here but we made due with chickens. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce (made by a Czech buddy!) and pumpkin pie were all present and pulled off really well. Thankfully my mom had brought me canned pumpkin when she visited. Finding pie crust and evaporated milk in the Czech supermarkets proved to be a bit difficult but it all turned out alright in the end. I’m very glad we did this dinner. It was very fun to all sit around the table, draw hand turkeys and say what we were thankful for. It felt like a little bit of home.
