Hilary Echo Douglas Memorial Scholarship
We are pleased to announce the creation of a special scholarship in memory of Hiliary Echo Douglas. Hiliary was a dedicated study abroad advocate, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and colleague who passed away in 2008. In 1999 Hiliary traveled to Vietnam with a Fulbright Fellowship to investigate modern theatre in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. After two more years working for various international cultural collaborations in Vietnam, Hiliary joined CET Academic Programs as the Vietnam Immersion Resident Director. Sadly, Hiliary’s young life was cut short in July 2008 by a car accident, hence our desire to establish a legacy in her honor.
The Hiliary Echo Douglas scholarship will be given to a student who demonstrates Hiliary’s love for Vietnam and other cultures, her desire to give back to the world community, and her contagious love for life.
Hosted and administered by the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA), the Hiliary Echo Douglas Scholarship will award up to $5000 to a student for use during the 2012-2013 academic year. The application deadline for the first award is November 14, 2011. Details about the scholarship application can be found at http://www.fundforeducationabroad.org/applicants/scholarships/
The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to increase the opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships. FEA’s goal is to increase the number and diversity of American students studying abroad with a particular emphasis on non-traditional destinations, such as Vietnam.
We are grateful to the many people who have already made generous donations to support this scholarship. If you or your institution would like to donate as well, please visit FEA’s website and follow the “Donate Now” links. Donations are tax-deductible.
We would also appreciate your assistance in sharing news of this scholarship with other colleagues who share our passion for Vietnam and for increasing the number of students studying abroad in Vietnam. Please let us know if there is anyone or any particular organization to which we should reach out directly.
